His name is power!

Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phil. 2:9-11

When it comes to the strong name of Jesus, there is power! Indescribable, unstoppable power! If we had any idea just how much power is in His name, we would call on His name more often than we do and for every need that comes our way.

Discovering the power that’s all wrapped up in the mighty name of Jesus changes our whole perspective. Why? Because we begin to see that great power unleashed to heal, deliver and set us free from every temptation that tries it’s best to entangle us.

There is power in His name to set the vilest sinner free. There is power to break every stronghold. There is power to heal the lame and bring the sick up from the sick bed. Yes, the name of Jesus has unstoppable power and we need to call on that name whenever we have a need.

When a sinner confesses with his mouth “Jesus is Lord,” something happens and that life is never the same from that time forward. The stony heart within that individual becomes cleansed from all unrighteousness. The heart that once was so stained with the blackness of sin becomes white as snow and pure as fine wool. (Is. 1:18) But it’s only through the name of Jesus that something so powerful can happen because there is no other name by which man can be saved. (Acts 4:12)

We can call on the name of the Lord and it will bring forth a healing touch from the Master’s hand. I remember one time when I called on the name of the Lord and it brought forth healing for me. I awoke one morning and realized that I must have slept with my hand bent in an awkward position most of the night causing me to have a throbbing pain in my forearm. Since we were on vacation, I dreaded being in pain even more. As my husband and I drove to our next destination we listened to some Christian music and worshipped the Lord. The presence of the Lord settled down upon us right there in the car. When I called on the name of the Lord and asked for healing, something wonderful happened and I was instantly healed. I have never suffered with it even to this day. I still praise God for His healing touch upon me. Yes, there is power in the name of Jesus!

One time when I was growing up our car had something to go wrong with it. Dad could have stewed and worried about it, but he decided to call on the name of the Lord instead. Dad said he was going to ask the Lord to “heal his car” and when he did, it ran smoothly after that. Dad was happy to give the good testimony at his church of how the Lord “healed his car.”

My Aunt Joan gave me a testimony of how the Lord came to the rescue when her refrigerator didn’t cool like it should. She knew she had a lot of stress already with family on their way into town for a surprise birthday party for her mother. Joan had prepared food for the party and there was no time to call a repair man. Joan called on the Lord for that need and her refrigerator began to run smoothly and even make ice again. She never had to call a repair man because God did the repair work. The Lord knows all about our needs, but He waits for us to bring Him into the picture. And when we do, He hears us and honors our prayers.

This must be a time for remembrances because I have been reminded of several times when our two children were small and we had to travel some icy roads on our way to the baby sitter’s house so I could go into work. I remember so plainly that on two occasions that suddenly our vehicle began to spin around in the middle of the highway at a fast rate of speed. I immediately began screaming at the top of my lungs, “Oh God! Oh God!” I have to believe the Lord must have sent a giant angel or two to stop our vehicle because we came to a dead halt right in the middle of the road both times. Even though it has been a number of years since those incidents, I am still in awe of the Lord and His tender mercy to hear my cry for help. My children and I could have gone over a steep embankment, but we were able to go on our way, safe from all harm and danger all because of the power that’s in the name of the Lord.

Let’s call upon the name of the Lord and never forget that He desires to help us when we’re in need. Rest assured that when there’s a need of any kind, we can call on His name.

Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Ps. 103:2-5

Prayer: Father, I cannot give you enough praise for how you bless and help us when we have a need. Thank you for the victory we can truly have when we call on the name that is above all names. Thank You for loving us the way you do and caring about what happens to us. Praise the name of the Lord for every time You hear us calling Your beautiful name and come to our rescue. Praise Your name both now and forevermore. Amen.
